Beautiful and elegant pair of armless slipper chairs designed by Edward Wormley for Dunbar. This set appears to have been reupholstered (beautifully and professionally) at some point (and a skirt was added). The fabric is a black and cream houndstooth. The skirt looks like it could be removed (see close up images). They retain the original dark finish on the mahogany legs. Frames are super solid and the foam is soft. These chairs work in any environment; whether it's mid-century modern, traditional or hollywood regency. Both chairs retain the original metal Dunbar tag to the frame.
About Edward Wormley, from Dunbar's website, "A leading American furniture designer for over four decades, Edward J Wormley possessed a personal flair for embracing modern trends without a total departure from historical influences. His ability to combine the finest materials with outstanding craftsmanship became the cornerstone of his design statement.
In 1931, he was recruited by DUNBAR and quickly became their Director of Design. Wormley's tenure as Design Director spanned over thirty years and is considered one of the most historically meaningful between a designer and manufacturer."
