Rarest of the Rare! 1910s "Vaseline Glass" uranium crystal bead necklace. Huge faceted beads of bi-color peach & citrine hues alternate with elongated bicone clear crystals and small half-rounds on fine metal findings. The photos, as usual, fail to capture the extraordinary play of color and light in these singular crystals; the pale peach & citrine create a delicate watermelon effect, while the clear crystals provide a perfect shimmering counterpoint. Vaseline, or uranium, glass was popular in the early part of the 20th Century, mostly for household items; its use in jewelry was limited and noteworthy. Under UV light (see last photo), they glow with an unearthly effulgence. It is very rare to find a piece of this substance, in this condition, making this a wholly desirable and dazzling statement piece. 18"L, beads 0.75" dia.
