Stunningly wonderful and very hard to come by (especially this size) Weller Pottery Scenic Line (pattern name) vase. A true piece of art and conversation piece with relief design of trees and plants on an aqua glaze. Don't miss the subtle clouds carved into the clay. In amazing shape! Lovely scalloped top with handles. From the early 1930s or possibly earlier.
Sam Weller founded Weller Pottery in 1872 originally in Fultonham, Ohio as a one-person operation. Initial products were utilitarian including flowerpots and cookware. Samuel Weller moved Weller pottery to Zanesville, Ohio in 1888.
In 1885, Weller pottery began to make art pottery. By 1915, Samuel Weller had established Weller Pottery as the world’s largest art pottery company that reflected the Arts and Crafts, Art Nouveau, and Art Deco movements of the time.
By the mid 1930s, Weller pottery could no longer economically produce handcrafted art pottery and turned its focus to molded pottery. As with most other American art pottery companies, Weller’s quality went down after the mid 1930s. Weller pottery went out of business in 1948. less
