The Erdmann Schlegelmilch Porcelain Factory was established in Suhl, Thuringia, Germany by Leonard Schlegelmilch and his two brothers in 1861. The name was chosen in honor of their father, Erdmann.
Leonard died in 1899, and the business was overtaken by his son, Julius Martin. It gradually grew until the beginning of the WWI. Though the business declined thereafter, the factory continued production until the Great Depression. The factory closed in 1937.
Offered here is a stunningly beautiful Rococo hand painted porcelain boudoir lamp made by the E S porcelain factory. The mark on the bottom dates this piece to sometime between 1902 and 1910. (The electric cord is obviously dated later). The background colors of pink and white provide a perfect backdrop for the extensive delicate gold detailing as well as the two hand painted courting couple scenes, one on each side. Stands 10 1/2" tall (up to the top of the socket). The exquisite curves of this piece scream Romanticism. Each stretch of the more-or-less equilateral triangle base measures 3 3/4".
Exceptionally fine condition with no chips, cracks, or unusual wear. The electrical parts work just fine. NO BULB OR SHADE INCLUDED. less
