For Sale is a Very Early Brutalist Studio Pottery 11" tall including Lidded Jar/Urn and Rare. It's signed JT. If it's a Abernathy piece it may have been created in Maija Grotell class.
A Rare and Beautiful Studio Pottery Piece.
This Lidded Vessel is of the Mid-Century period in a Brutalist composition.
This 1940 - 1950 storage jar is a precisely shaped Vessel.
The Exterior is Highly Textured, Brutalist, with a Multitudes of brown, tan & blue Glazes.
The inside is fully glazed with a brown and blue mixture of glazes with blue being the dominate color, Pics in bottom row show this glaze inside. They also show the potter's wheel rings.
He, Abernathy, most likely made this piece when he was at Cranbrook Academy in Bloomfield, Michigan under the guidance of Maija Grotell.
This is the Institute that gave us many Brilliant Ceramists.
A Stunning Piece of Pottery.
It measures 11" tall x 5.25" wide x 5.25" deep.
With lid off it is 7.75" tall. The lid measures 3.25" tall including the ring handle.
There are small glaze chips around the lid's edge, from age, shown in photo.
Glaze chips do not compromise the piece.
This Rare Jar/Urn would be a Great Addition to a Museum or Collector or Anyone. Or with an interest in JT less
