The piece shows a background of gradating tones of navy to cream in flame stitching with the pictorial and decorative stitches sewn in a bright rusty rose. Upper and lowercase alphabets along with the embroiderer’s name, Grace Grierson Anderson, 1882 are the primary focus of the sampler. The bottom stitching shows a decorative band of hearts, anchors and baskets. The sampler is from Drumboe, a tiny village in the north of Ireland. See less
