Bronze horse sculpture by artist Henry Weber Mitchell (1915-1980).
Mitchell was a Philadelphia based artist best known for his bronze relief horses of the fountain on the East Terrace of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the winged bull that symbolizes Jefferson University, and other works are installed prominently across the city at museums and universities.
This is a stunning representation of his work baring the "Mitchell" engraved signature on the hind leg. Gorgeous capture of equestrian movement and perfect decor piece.

- The tail on this sculpture is as sourced and appears to be missing based on other works of art from … moreThe tail on this sculpture is as sourced and appears to be missing based on other works of art from Mitchell. Typically his sculptures are also perched on a stone base. This one was sourced without a base but there does appear to be screw receivers at the bottom of two hooves as if it once had a base that was removed. It does stand perfectly and securely on its own without a base. The bronze does show signs of wear and age giving lots of character & patina. This is a vintage piece so there will be wear and signs of age. I do my very best to capture these in the photos.
