A set of three Van Briggle pottery items from circa 1980. The first 2 we believe were started from molds; the third with the notation " Original", indicates it was hand thrown. All in the " Persian Rose Glaze" matt finish and color. All purchased from the same estate, we grouped these three based upon the similarity of the color, style and glaze. The bottom of each piece is clear glaze, with the "Van Briggle " name, Double "A" mark and locale.... Colorado Springs, CO.
The first Vase:
Is a Greek or Ming style Vase with 2 handles. It was made from a mold then completed by an etcher and there after glazed. It measures 11" high and 10.5" at the widest part of the vase. The etcher's initials on this vase are HVM. Those initials are for Hilde Manuszak; Hilde was an etcher from 1988 to 2002.
The second Vase:
Is in the "Iris" pattern and the original price tag remains in place. Style number 167. It measures 15" high and 8" wide at the base including the handles. The etchers initials are "CF". Those initials are for Carolyn French; Carolyn was a potter from 1986 to 1994. The "Iris" pattern was originally designed by Artus Van Briggle in 1902-1903. It remained one of the company's popular vase styles.
The third item:
Is a ruffled bowl, and measures 3" high and 8.5 " wide and bears the initials "TU "on the bottom. Those are the initials for potter Christina Ufford who worked for Van Bringle from 1994 to 2002. The word "Original" on the bottom indicates that this piece was shaped, and hand thrown on a Potter's wheel. less
