Each plate depicts an Astrolabe, an elaborate inclinometer from classical antiquity used by astronomers, navigators and astrologers to locate and predict the positions of the planets and to determine the local time and latitude.The gilded front features a beautiful graphic drawing of the instrument with a ribbon in Latin characters on top. The back of the plate is fully labeled as shown in the detail photos. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
