A custom designed and built walnut and steel cabinet by Bill Curran Design in Philadelphia, PA, circa 2000. A stunning example of an early BCD custom piece that could be used in any area of the house or loft.....The cabinet is constructed in two separate pieces for easier transportation.
The Piece is a Mid-Century take on a Japanese Tonsu. It is (2) pieces for a total height of 84". The Cabinet does come apart. The lower section is 35" tall and the upper section is 51" tall. Both cabinets have a 3" toe kick (2" of the toe kick of the upper cabinet drops into the lower cabinet when assembled). The last inch of the toe kick is a 1" reveal when put together. The upper cabinet is 96" in width and the lower cabinet is 93" wide. Both cabinets are 24" deep.
The sides of the cabinets are framed with waxed, hot roll steel. All infill of steel is walnut either plywood or solid with a natural finish. The back is unfinished to go up against a wall. There is a round hole cut in the back of the upper cabinet for electric. It is possible to split the cabinets up but a top would need to be made for the lower cabinet.
The son of a potter, Bill Curran grew up in the foothills of the Adirondacks, in Glens Falls, New York. After earning his BFA at the State University of New York at Purchase, Bill came to Philadelphia in 2000, where he established Bill Curran Design in a small artist studio not far from the Reading Terminal. Over the past two decades, his company has grown into one of the premier architectural metalwork studios in the greater Philadelphia area. BCD is now located in the Germantown area of Philadelphia where it works closely with both residential and commercial clients to produce unique work that is as functional as it is esthetically alluring.
