This Chippendale style console, library, or sofa, table is hand carved on all four sides. Its top is edged by a gadroon border. Which sits upon a paneled support that is also bordered on its lower edge with further gadroon detailing. Which emirates out from a center detail on each side. Four classic ball-in-claw cabriole legs descend from intricately hand-carved corners. This table is solid mahogany which has aged over the years to a rich and lovely "honey" hue (versus the traditional deep red tone). Unmarked - we attribute this piece to the early 20th century.
Due to its quality hand-carving, colonial revival Chippendale styling, and solid mahogany construction (with old flat head screws).
Measures 57" wide x 16..25" deep x 30" high.
In very good antique condition. Structurally sound and therefore very sturdy. No substantial chips, scratches, dents, or marks of note. Top surface has subtle nuances commensurate with age/use. Three of the four hand-carved leg tops have some very old cracks. Which may indicate that this piece long ago transitioned from another climate (England?) to the U.S. Subtle "nicks", "dings", and wear are evident on all four leg knees and feet. See photos for details.
