Old Country Roses has been adding a touch of vintage flair to stylish homes since 1962, but just like a fine bottle of wine, the collection only gets better with age. It's beautifully intricate pattern and fine bone china body makes every piece extra special, which is why it's known as the world's best selling dinnerware collection.
Old Country Roses:
Old Country Roses is a long-standing testament to timeless style and craftsmanship. Its gorgeous clusters of red, pink and yellow roses, unique shapes, flamboyant edging and 22 carat gold embellishments, creates the epitome of fine English tea and dinnerware.
The original design was imagined by Harold Holdcroft, based on an older Royal Albert pattern called King's Ransom. Harold was inspired by a quintessentially English country garden, in full bloom, the magical haze of summertime. In true Royal Albert style, the collection is crafted from the finest of bone china.
A History of Quality:
The story of Royal Albert stretches back over 100 years. While the Royal Albert brand was created in 1904, its roots are found in the Albert Works, built in 1896. The Albert Works commemorated the birth of Prince Albert in 1895, who was named in memory of his great-grandfather, the most famous of Victorian Alberts.
The Albert Works was owned by Thomas Wild and his sons who specialized in tea, breakfast and dessert pieces with floral designs. They built up a fabulous reputation of producing beautiful china tea and breakfast sets and firmly established the Royal Albert name.
English fine bone china was always admired for its lightness, translucency and its soft subtle almost pearly white quality. Much approved of by the tea-party hostesses of the nineteenth and early twentieth century. less
