Sensational and unique French cartonnier made in the 19th century … more Cartonnier Furniture – Bureau, Transitional Style, 19th century – France
Sensational and unique French cartonnier made in the 19th century in Transition Style. The furniture rises on a wooden base and the upper part ends with a desk or bureau. This folding door features camel-colored embossed leather on the outside, embossed with gold. Inside, space to store documents or writing instruments, with lock. Below this drawer another record appears. In the main body there are six striking camel-colored leather drawers with delicate and simple handles. Each drawer has a front flap that opens folding, they are made of cardboard, on the front side they also have embossed leather. These drawers can be locked using the clever fold-out side on the right side. The top of the desk houses a hidden compartment that is accessed by pulling a small knob. When it is extracted, you can see small spaces for the inkwells, one of them is preserved. Perfect as a file cabinet, a very difficult piece to find on the art market. In good condition for its age and use.
Transitional Style
Made just at the moment of transition between the Louis XV and Louis XVI styles. During this period, characteristics of both styles were mixed, as can be seen in this piece. The Louis classical architecture. It is characterized by lightness, harmony and proportion, leaving aside the heaviness and excess of the styles it follows. It stands as a more discreet and elegant style.
