1960 stencil print by Japanese artist, Yoshitoshi Mori (1898-1992), entitled 'Vehicle'. Mori was known for his depiction of Japanese folk traditions and often used earth tone colors and favored the portrayal of movement and festivals. This piece appears to depict a parade or procession in a graphic combination of black and golden tan on organic rice paper. It is framed in wood with a touch of gold gilt and outfitted with wire for hanging. Though Mori was an acclaimed artist and this is a wonderful piece, what makes it a fascinating novelty is that it was sold through the Vincent Price Collection at Sears. That's right! The king of Hollywood horror was not only a great character actor but also an art historian and collector. He collaborated with Sears & Roebuck to create an affordable collection and gallery for Sears' customers as he believed everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy original art in the home. During his tenure, you could buy a fine art print from the likes of Picasso, Dali and Yoshitoshi Mori straight from the Sears showroom! Signed and numbered 1 of 20.
