The ceramic pitcher has been hand painted in a floral pattern with a black handle and black and orange rings at the base. It has a shallow glazed foot and base and an orange rim. The interior is glazed in an off-white glaze color.
There is a mark on the base that has been partially glazed over. I can read “semi-vitreous __”, “Potters Co.” and the word “East” inside a shield mark. This is the mark of Potters Co-Operative Co. from East Liverpool, OH.
The Potters Cooperative (aka TPC) was started by a group of disgruntled potters who had been locked out of their potteries after trying to form a Pottery Workers Union. The facility operated from 1882 to 1925.
The mark over the backstamp and design is characteristic of Joseph Mrazek, a Czech ceramic artist that decorated Potters Cooperative white pottery in New York City in 1917-1918 during World War I
***Please note*** we are also selling a set of three small ceramic plates from Czechoslovakia with a very similar design. They would coordinate very well with this pitcher.
