An incredible rare large original gold-leafed offset lithograph "Taking of a Town" after 17th century Indian painting. According to E. Blochet, this painting represents the capture of Kandahar in Afghanistan (1637) by Grand Mogul's troops under the command of Said Khan, the governor of Kabul. Possibly by Bitchitr Rai, as the Portrait of Said Khan which we also are offering for sale.
Comes from a rare first limited edition art folio published by Les Editions du Chene in Paris, France in 1950. Printed on one side. Tipped-in on an insert of heavy paper. Numbered "II" at the lower right corner of the insert. Gold-leafed and very detailed. Superb quality, rich colors, excellent condition - very minor age wear on edges of the insert, never used.
Image 9.60"W x 13.65"H - nearly the size of the original artwork.
The original 17th century Indian painting "Taking of a Town" is 9.65"W x 14"H, Collection J. Pozzi.
