Rare French substantially sized ceramic monogram "Chevalier" signed and dated by its artist Raphaël Giaroussu, 1966. A designer for the famed mid-century French ceramique Maison Accolay, contemporary and peer of Georges Pelletier. A graduate from the Ecole des Beaux Art, regular exhibitor in the Porte de Versailles Fair and on permanent display at the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris, Giarusso was one of the first to marry intricate ceramic sculpture with varied colored enamels and tiny hand-forged bronze details. In this example, The glove and the spear are in patinated bronze. The ceramic spear point, shield and coat are accented with red, yellow and blue colored enamels. All the upper parts of the sculpture are decorated with wrought fretwork wires. less
