Offered for sale is a vintage expressionist abstract female portrait painting on canvas by the well-listed New York City artist Gino Hollander (1924- 2015). The painting is signed in the lower left and is displayed in a silvered wood frame of the period. It is wired and ready to hang.

In the mid-20th century, Hollander was a successful filmmaker along with his wife Barbara Hollander before he began painting in 1960. At this time the abstract expressionism movement in New York City was beginning.
Hollander became a member of the group that defined this movement and they were known for frequenting the famous Cedar Tavern. Acrylic paint was just emerging at that time and Hollander was among the first to explore its possibilities.
Hollander had his first studio and gallery from 1960 - 1962 on Bleecker Street in Greenwich Village. During that time, the artist sold works to celebrities such as Jacqueline Kennedy, Steve McQueen, Norman Rockwell, and Ralph Lauren.
