The Saint appears to … more A Stunning Antique 19th Century Hand Painted Russian Orthodox Icon on Wood Panel of Saint Framed. The Saint appears to be sitting on an ornate gold throne dipping his pen in ink and writing in a book, while an animal at his feet is lovingly looking up at him. I don’t know the identity of the Saint. His halo and the throne details are magnificent. This is a rare find. My grandfather was a Russian Orthodox Priest and this came from his personal collection.

The icon is in beautiful condition for the age and is in untouched, original condition. It is all hand painted with beautiful muted colors done in gorgeous detail and gold leaf while retaining its original varnish. I’m not sure what the material is; painted on wood? There is an area at the top of the icon that is slightly lifted and bent upwards as pictured. The wear just adds to the patina of this precious piece of history. Please see photographs. The icon is framed beautifully and the framing date on the back states October 8, 1961. This is a rare find!!!

This piece would look absolutely stunning in any setting. Would be a great addition for any religious or icon collector.
