Artist Biography
Gregory Eiselein (Born 1945) is active/lives in Montana. He is known for Landscape painting, sculpture.
Gregory Eiselein, born in Roundup, Montana in 1945, was raised on a working cattle ranch in the Little Snowy Mountains. In his estimation, it was a privilege to have lived and worked in the mountains and prairies that surrounded his home. As a youth he was taken by the area's diverse land, flora and fauna and studied it endlessly. Greg's artist inclinations surfaced early; his talents were further cultivated at Eastern Montana College. During his art studies in Billings, Montana he was greatly influenced by art instructor Ben Steele, who to this day remains a close friend.Greg's capacity for creativity is boundless, working in oil, watercolor and sculpture. His subjects are wide ranging and include landscapes, wildlife, Native American, Western and historical narratives. The bygone days of the American West have always intrigued the artist. And studies of those times are particularly evident in his earlier works. In painting Greg strives to create aesthetically pleasing scenes, transposing natural images to canvas, yet interjecting his own appreciation and understanding of the physical landscape. His pictures have been described as "colored textural impressionism," utilizing dynamic composition coupled with rich, pure color, from warm to cool, often eliciting an emotional response.Having set up a foundry, Greg's control of sculpture, the artistry and process is unparalleled. Greg operates the foundry himself and enjoys the "technical" aspects of working in bronze, and employing the Lost Wax method. Greg creates and casts his own pieces, which has provided the artist with a much deeper understanding, and command of the medium. And as evidenced by his popular North American Big Game series, brilliant sculptures of animals in nature.Greg Eiselein's work can be found in numerous private and corporate collections. Additionally, his work has been juried into the Yellowstone Art Museum in Billings, Montana. Greg spends a great deal of time on sojourns exploring his native Montana, gathering material for next painting or sculpture. less
