These are somewhat translucent milk glass, with a basket weave design on the oval dish and hen lid accented with red comb, wattle and eyes.

Two sizes were made in this similar design by Indiana Glass. This is the smaller version that was made earlier than the larger version that is about 7 inches in length.

The smaller version, up for sale here, was only made in clear and white milk glass. These smaller versions are often referred to as “Mystery Hen”. From my research, I believe them to have been made in 1930. These were originally sold as a relish covered dish.

Milk glass is versatile for use at festive parties. Different designs and eras meld together beautifully. This makes the ambiance uniquely memorable and awesome by your design. less
