Any delicacy that the mirrors might have from age are reinforced with the newer panel underneath. During the Directoire period, furniture and ornaments stressed elongated, simple shapes with clear lines. This style was sparse and ornamentation was based mostly on ancient Roman objects recovered from excavations at Pompeii. This was the last phase of the Louis XVI style.
