1930s Vintage Brass Cocktail Shaker, Made in Italy

The … more This sublimely designed and fastidiously executed cocktail shaker was probably made in the 30s, perhaps earlier in the 20s. The materials are top notch, solid brass (lacquered) and brass nickel-plated (the strainer). The various design elements -- the acorn finial, the spare overall design -- suggest neoclassicism. As you can see from the photos, there's a decorative edge on the perimeter of the base -- but so delicately accomplished!

I suspect this shaker was never used. The interior (which seems to be nickel or nickel-silvered in the manner of the strainer) look untouched. There are no dents in the brass. The original lacquer finish has only several tiny intrusions and overall is in what I call 95+% condition.

One is led to compare the quality of the craftsmanship and design with the high standard in the realm of cocktail shakers -- the Bel Geddes "Manhattan" shaker and the German airplane or zeppelin sets.
