U.S. calvary Springfield trapdoor McKeever cartridge box, Model 1874, used during the Indian Wars (American Frontier Wars), black leather pouch with "US in oval embossed at front, a leather flap folds onto the brass finial for closed security, front and back fold open on a lower brass hinge rod to reveal 20 interior loops for storage of .45-70 cartridges, a U.S. Model 1879 tool for use with the Springfield Trapdoor rifle as a screwdriver, mainspring clamp, band spring and tumbler punch, housed in receptacle pocket of box interior, the backside exterior with two belt loops. circa 1870s-1890
