Of Chicago is after the Limoges tradition of enameling which reached its peak and became popular during the Renaissance. The scene shows archangel Gabriel holding the lily, a symbol of purity, representing the Virgin Mary. This is a part of the famous Annunciation. The plate is affixed to a wood frame with brass (see photo) and has brass embellishments on the front.

This piece, despite its age, is in very good original condition, and shows little wear consistent with age and use. The fabric connecting the stand to the back of the frame has been broken, see photos. less
