Original gouache & ink masterwork on paper. The artist captures the magnificence of the era with precise architectural perspective. Cerulean, ochre, & shell white celebrate the nostalgia. Reflections dance on a saturated stone floor of sepia. Exquisite Renaissance Revival style.
Titled: “Wiener Hofburg Neue Redoutensal.” Signed & dated 1910.
Historic Location: The Reception Hall of the Grand Ballroom in the Redouten Wing of the Vienna Hofburg Palace
Paganini performed his first concert in Vienna at the Hofburg in 1828.
In the mid-1800s Empress Maria Theresa (mother of Marie Antoinette) had the 17th century Baroque period Opera House converted to the ballrooms & concert halls later known as the Redoutensäle, named for the elegant masked ball events which would be held in the Palace. As tastes changed over time the massive rooms were refurbished many times - this is Hofburg Redouten Hall in 1910.
Measures: 25” width, 37.3” height, including 3/4” frame.
