*Olive Kooken (1904-1964) was an American artist who left her mark on the Art Deco design movement during the 1920s and 30s. Though details surrounding her life are scarce, we know she honed her skills at the prestigious Art Students League in New York City. Kooken then carved a path as a freelance sculptor, notably designing lamps with a distinct Art Deco flair. These lamps, unfortunately a rare sight today, were crafted using a complex copper-clad technique and embodied the elegance and geometric forms of the era.
*Armor Bronze Company, originally known as The National Metalizing Company (1910s), was a prominent American producer of decorative metal objects. While their products encompassed bookends, doorstops, and art pieces, they gained particular recognition for their exquisite lamps. Founded in New York City and later relocating to Massachusetts, Armor Bronze operated from roughly 1910 to 1948. Their lamps, crafted from bronze using unique techniques like polychrome and sgraffito finishes, were known for their beauty and craftsmanship. Today, these vintage lamps are prized by collectors, serving as a testament to the artistry of the Armor Bronze Company. less
