Gorgeous, Monumental, Mural-sized, 1960's Mid Century Modern, Stylized, woven wall tapestry of Cubist, Working Women, created by Hungarian designer, Laszlo Pecsi.
This tapestry, known as an Emese, was produced by the state-owned Home Textile & Upholstery Company (LakásTEXtil Vállalat) Kőszeg and Szombathely based in Hungary, in the late 60s.
The artwork is made from cotton and viscose. These fibers are woven together, forming a short, dense cut or looped, soft, fabric, pile, known as Moquette.
The pile construction is particularly durable, making it suitable for heavy-duty and/or long-term use.
This tapestry measures
67" W × 0.25ʺD × 27" H (5 ft 7 in Long)
Hanging Suggestions
.
There are several ways of hanging this tapestry, such as; sewing channels along the top and bottom or all four sides, to hold an invisible flat wooden batten or round unseen curtain rod.
They can be mounted on board, or stretched like canvas and hung as is or framed. It can also be hung from the top, like a curtain, by visible, decorative loops.
About Emese tapestries
Hungary, a small country, suffered a massive economic depression after WW11
As part of a state-funded program towards economic recovery, the state supported artists of every discipline, willing to work in cooperative factories, which lead to many exquisite collaborative works of art, in the 50s and 60s
Given the funding, materials and facilities, and thus the artistic freedom to create, magnificent and now treasured works, artists were able to produce their visions without sacrificing artistic quality.
The Emese tapestries, of the 60s, are scarce today.
At the height of their creation, there were over 20 designs, many made in 4 different color combinations
Magnificent, Mid Century Modernist, Cubist, and very Focal work of art.
In wonderful vintage pre-owned condition. less
