The pictures which have been uploaded in the listing serve ultimately as the most definitive description of authenticity. A distinctive feature in these descriptions reveal soldered pre-plated metal sheet/wire in the joints, common among genuine Sheffield-plated candlesticks manufactured in this era. Another distinctive feature is an inscription, an upper-case "B" located at the base of each well at the top of both Candlesticks, however, no hallmarks or other official marks appear on the Candlesticks.

Unfortunately, the U.K. did not require all silver items over 7.78 grams to be hallmarked before 1973. Authenticity for items made in the U.K. within the period from 1900-1940 can best be ascertained from a current comprehensive Guide to Silver Hallmark in the U.K. According to the Guide, a "letter" inscribed on the item would indicate (1) the date of manufacture and (2) where the item was assayed. An inscription of the letter "B" was listed in the reference tables of the Guide does indicate that the Candlesticks were assayed in the British Assay Offices in Chester in 1902.
