These stunning Candlesticks will make an elegant Christmas or Hanukkah gift. Silver decorative items are also often used as gifts for celebrating precious moments like weddings, anniversaries (particularly a 25th wedding anniversary), or birthdays, symbolizing prosperity and good luck in many cultures.

(1) The United Kingdom, (2) the period from 1900-1940, and (3) Regency Sheffield-Plate are the result and are all noted in the listing to assist buyers readily find Candlesticks of this era and of this style. The pictures which have been uploaded in the listing serve ultimately as the most definitive description of authenticity. A distinctive feature in these descriptions reveal soldered pre-plated metal sheet/wire in the joints, common among genuine Sheffield-plated candlesticks manufactured in this era. Another distinctive feature is an inscription, an upper-case "B" located at the base of each well at the top of both Candlesticks, however, no hallmarks or other official marks appear on the Candlesticks.
Unfortunately, the U.K. did not require all silver items over 7.78 grams to be hallmarked before 1973. Authenticity for items made in the U.K. within the period from 1900-1940 can best be ascertained from a current comprehensive Guide to Silver Hallmark in the U.K. According to the Guide, a "letter" inscribed on the item would indicate (1) the date of manufacture and (2) where the item was assayed. An inscription of the letter "B" was listed in the reference tables of the Guide does indicate that the Candlesticks were assayed in the British Assay Offices in Chester in 1902.
The Regency style (1811 to 1830) found its popularity during the life of Napoleon and became the English equivalent to the popular French Empire period. Both were heavily influenced by the Ancient Greek and Roman styles. The major source of inspiration for Regency taste was found in Greek and Roman antiquity from which designers borrowed both structural and ornamental element. In the Regency styles early phases, English silversmith's created faithful copies of French design. The Ancient Greek and Roman design of the Candlesticks are identical to the styles of other Regency period candlesticks. less
