Marker on paper drawing of a man on crutches by noted Northwest artist William Cumming. Circa 1960s. Typical of his whimsical, child-like style era. New framing. Unsigned. From the estate of one of the artist’s former wives (he had seven).
His works are in the permanent collections of the Seattle Art Museum, The Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture and Portland Art Museum (perhaps others).
William Cumming (American, 1917-2010) was a celebrated painter whose figurative compositions explored the line between realism and abstraction. He was a member of the Northwest School, a Pacific Northwest-based art movement influenced by the region's natural environment and cultural symbols. Cumming's artworks are characterized by their movement, light, and color. Born in Montana, he grew up in Tukwila, Washington, beginning his career painting for the WPA Federal Art Project in Seattle from 1938 to 1940. (From Arts WA)
