An American Rookwood Pottery production vase date marked for 1927. The American art pottery vase flares outward into a fan shape with subtle ribbed detailing around the body which rests atop an oval foot. The vessel's matte glaze is a velvety dusty rose-pink with mottled pale green accents around the mouth and shoulder. The slender fan-shaped design is an ideal ornament for a shelf, a window sill, or a mantlepiece.
Very good condition with a tiny glaze nick or skip on one side, measuring 5.75 in. height x 3.38 in. diameter (at widest part of rim), with Rookwood's RP flame trademark, XXVII [1927] / 2959 [form/shape number] impressed on the base.
Maria Longworth Nichols (1849-1932) founded Rookwood Pottery in 1880 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Rookwood quickly became America's pre-eminent art pottery, winning a number of prestigious awards including the Grand Prix at the 1900 Exposition Universelle in Paris. less
