The lipstick was groundbreaking at the time as it was the first long lasting lipstick. AND...it became highly coveted as it was the lipstick preferred by Audrey Hepburn! It was rumored to cross the Atlantic to highlight the lips of Miss Hepburn herself! The advertisement was illustrated by the famed graphic artist Rene Gruau. Gruau was a highly stylized illustrator whose work has become iconic with its simplicity and its graphic design. This image of the blindfolded woman with hot red lips is an iconic Gruau image that evokes the frivolity and narcissism of femininity. It defines glamour and sensuality with humor. This work is a prime example of the French propensity for style, flair, and pizzazz in mid-century advertising art. Makes great wall décor for entrance or bathroom. Perfect for today's fashionista.
