Antique very heavy and substantial cast iron and brass fire starter cauldron pot kettle with pumice wand. This rare piece was made between 1890-1910. The iron pot was used to store Kerosene or lamp oil to light your fires and the pot would be kept at your hearth or fire pit. The pumice stone would be soaked in the fuel to light the stone under the logs. Then the soaked stone would burn long enough to catch the logs/kindling to start the fireplace and would be cooled and placed back into the pot to soak for next needed fire. The pot is solid, heavy cast iron with a beautiful hand created texture throughout. It sits on three classically shaped feet. It has the original handle, lid, and wand. Besides it original use it could also be used as a mortar and pestle. Or this cast iron pot or kettle can be placed directly over heat for cooking or heating ingredients. It is quite a statement piece for your home!
Condition:
Excellent condition for it's age with minor rust and patina that could be polished off if a newer look is desired. The pumice portion of the want wobbles a bit, but will still be just fine for use. It can be tightened with changing or adding an additional screw.
Measurements:
Pot - 7" tall (with handle down) x 6.5" wide
Wand - 8" long x 2.5" wide less
