This rare and highly coveted Original poster for Piscines de Papier (Paper Pools) was produced in 1980 for Editions Herscher, Paris to promote the French edition of the book David Hockney: Paper Pools. It's a high quality color lithograph printed on heavy matte wove paper, featuring Day Pool With Three Blues (Paper Pool #7), 1978, a rich and colorful rendition of one of the artist's iconic swimming pools.
In the summer of 1978, on route from England to his home in Los Angeles, David Hockney visited the workshop of master printer Kenneth Tyler, founder of the well known Tyler Graphics Studio in upstate New York. There, Tyler introduced Hockney to a new technique using paper pulp, dyed with colored pigment wet pulped rags were applied onto wet handmade paper. The results greatly impressed and inspired Hockney as he realized its potential in capturing the fleeting image of water in motion -something he was keenly interested in and had struggled to find the best way of rendering. During the next 6 weeks Hockney went about creating a new series of 29 unique works that would become an important part of the artist's oeuvre. Day Pool With Three Blues (Paper Pool #7) is one of these works. This poster of the work has become a coveted collectible because of its high quality and fidelity to the original as it's been produced and published in the same time period by the collaborator of these works, Kenneth Tyler. less
