Jan Olefsen of Norway, came to Montauk, Long Island, New York to visit relatives for the summer of 1975. He was a builder by trade and he liked walking along the shores to collect pieces of driftwood. He would make an assortment of dioramas, depicting various shops and stores. He would build the frames and add the glass windows and small bits of decor. Signed on the reverse side. He started to do this as fun but everyone wanted to buy them and he finally had to stop because it was becoming a business for him. (He was on vacation). This piece depicts a fisherman’s shack with wood buoys, ropes and a real glass window. Everything is hand made, including the frame. Has a plywood backing with built in hooks for hanging. It is in excellent condition, with period wear and patina but no serious damage. It weighs 8lbs by itself.
