Arthur Allen Lewis (1873-1957) "Le Dernier, Marquis de L'Isle Adam" etching on paper, unsigned, title written on the back.
Jean-Marie-Mathias-Philippe-Auguste, comte de Villiers de l'Isle-Adam or Auguste Villiers de l'Isle-Adam (1838-1889) was a French Symbolist writer and aristocrat. This etching depicts his deathbed (from stomach cancer) on which he married Marie Dantine, the mother of his child and possibly the lady depicted in the etching.
