Description: An original oil painting on canvas by Harold Dearden, British artist 1888-1962, "Breton Onion Sellers, No. 7", scene of two … more An original oil painting on canvas by Harold Dearden, British artist 1888-1962, "Breton Onion Sellers, No. 7", scene of two weary Breton young men dressed in traditional Breton garb carrying bunches of onions standing in front of a boat in harbor, 30 1/4" x 30 1/4", signed H. Dearden in the lower right corner front, old label on reverse - "No. 7, Breton Onion Sellers", CA number 3941, CA purchased winter of 2024 from a major Scottish auction house. This work was probably executed during the early 1950's. Fantastic brilliant coloration.
The painting has been cleaned and varnished in order to protect the paint film. It has been reframed with 1 1/8" Abe Munn antiqued gold, rubbed, antiqued and distressed rounded top moulding.
Dearden was an artist and draughtsman in oil colors and watercolors. He studied at the Rochdale School of Art and the Royal College of Art. In 1920 became head of the Swindon Art School for 30 years and for a time was president of the Swindon Artist's Society. He exhibited works in London and Swindon. less
