This semi-abstract painting of a lotus pond at night was inspired by a recent trip to Kew Gardens with my best friend. The image began as a lotus garden and ended up resembling a coral reef, I feel strangely pleased by this. The painting features a deep ultramarine background in matte gouache paint with vibrant orange and yellow and green flowers sprawling across it in a manner that creates the effect of stained glass window-panes of the background blue and purple tones. It is reasonably large at 16x20 and was painted on a framed board so it is edged by a pale wood frame which is not removable.
