The tray has an unusual gray glazed body worked as tree bark. Applied twig form handles support a single branch of two leaves colored with brown centers, flowing into shades of green and edged in red.
Beautifully graphic in design and color.
The verso shows a wide mottled rim. The tray has an applied footing and a deeper curve edged form.
In 1877, Thomas Forester established the Church Street Majolica Works, in Longton, Staffordshire. He soon opened a larger pottery called the Phoenix Works. Forester & Sons was one of the largest potteries in Stoke-on-Trent.
