"Koho Shoda was associated with the shin-hanga ("New Prints") art movement in Japan in the early 20th century. This movement was influenced by European Impressionism and its imagery focused on landscape, women and nature. wood print peonies in the rain. For this image the off white peony is surrounded by a wreath of leaves in rich colors varied blues with touches of maroon. The drizzle of rain is depicted by the silvery gray color. The image is surrounded by a beveled antique mat with artist hand written signature on the right, along with the title on the left. and the title of image on the left.

The medium used to created this piece is woodcut which is the oldest from of printmaking. The custom frame is off-white resin with marked etchings. The backing has a hook for framing or an easel for standing on the table.
