René Guinand was born in La Chaux de Fonds on November 15, 1892. His parents moved to Geneva in 1896.
He attended the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Genève in 1916 and met Ferdinand Hodler.
from 1917 onwards, he embarked on a long and distinguished career as a painter, winning numerous prizes and awards.
He lived in Paris from 1925 to 1934, where he met Othon Friez, Savin, de Waroquier and the sculptor Despiau.

he exhibited at the Musée Rath, Musée de l'Athénée and Galerie Moos in Geneva.
from 1935 onwards, René Guinand appeared on the most famous picture rails in Switzerland and abroad.
to the Venice Biennale in 1936. In 1944, he was appointed professor at the Geneva School of Fine Arts.
In 1963, the city of Geneva organized a major retrospective exhibition of his work.
Works by René Guinand can be found in museums in Geneva, Lausanne, Berne, Basel and Neuchâtel.
