Casimir Reymond, born in Vaulion on April 9, 1893 and died in Lausanne in July 1969, is a painter, sculptor, cardboard maker, teacher and school director from Vaud.
Casimir Reymond studied painting at the Geneva School of Fine Arts (1910-1913) then turned to sculpture. He obtained the federal fine arts grant in 1914. He created a relief with a biblical motif for the cathedral of Lausanne (1918-1919), participated in several exhibitions in Paris (1921-1925) and created the monumental neoclassical caryatids in marble for the entrance hall of the Federal Court (1925-1927). He created impressive busts of artists of his time, such as Félix Vallotton (1923) or Charles-Ferdinand Ramuz (1927).
He stayed in Paris from 1929 to 1932. from 1932, he taught at the cantonal school of drawing and applied art in Lausanne, which he directed in 1933-1934 and from 1945 to 1955.
Sympathizer, and even “travel companion” of the Swiss Labor Party, he is best known to the general public for his sculptures which adorn the city of Lausanne, in particular the two monumental statues of Crafts and Agriculture (35 tons of sandstone each) which flank the main entrance to the Comptoir suisse, or the opulent feminine forms of La Vendange (1938-43), in the Denantou park in Lausanne. The latter in particular causes a real scandal. Quite classic too, his sculpted portraits of Vaud political and cultural figures, some of which, however, through the exaggeration of the features, conceal a great force of expression. from 1960, the artist allowed himself more audacity: thus his portraits in unpolished cement (in particular that of Edmond Gilliard).
He received the Wilhelm Gimmi Prize in 1968 shortly before his death. Burgundy wooden frame
