Offered is a set of vintage dinnerware pieces from the quintessential English pottery, Johnson Brothers. Included are 2 of each: luncheon plates, bowls, and double egg cups. While this set could easily be used for lunch with soup and salad, soup and sandwich, you get the picture, we're calling it a Breakfast Set because of the DIVINE egg cups. If you know someone who enjoys a perfect 6 minute soft boiled egg, this is the perfect gift. It's hard to describe the beauty of the soft Greydawn Blue - it's like a soft powder blue but somehow bright - we hope the pictures do justice. The edges on the plates and bowls have a very subtle scalloped trim. This design was one of the classics for Johnson Brothers, made in their proprietary technique known as "semi-porcelain".
Plates measure 8.25" diameter, .5" tall
Bowls measure 6.25" diameter, 1.5" tall
Egg Cups measure 2.5" diameter, 4" tall, 1.875" base opening diameter
Here is a bit of the company's history:
Johnson Brothers was a British tableware manufacturer and exporter that was noted for its early introduction of "semi-porcelain" tableware. It was among the most successful Staffordshire potteries which produced tableware, much of it exported to the United States, from the 1890s through to the 1960s.[1] They were also important manufacturers of large bathroom ceramics. Some of its designs, such as "Eternal Beau", "Dawn", "Old Britain Castles" and "Historic America", achieved widespread popularity and are still collected today.[2] The company's success was due in part to its ability to identify and follow trends that appealed to its customers in the United States, and in part to the high quality of its designs, produced by skilled artists.[3] less
