Igael Tumarkin was born in 1933 in Dresden, Germany In 1935 he emigrated to Palestine, Israel. From 1951-1953 he was in military service in the Israeli Army. Tumarkin worked in the studio of sculptor Rudi Lehmann and then moved to Berlin, Germany, and joined Bertolt Brecht's Berliner Ensemble as a set designer and produced his first iron sculptures. Tumarkin worked as an assistant to the designer Karl von Appen and moved back to Israel in 1961. His work has been shown in museums and galleries throughout the world.
