The body is … more This charming and cheerful ceramic ginger jar-styled lamp base possesses a romantic sensibility plus great visual appeal. The body is encircled by a naturalistic floral motif set against a soft sky blue ground with lightly textured painted flowers including chrysanthemums and lilies in darker blues, pale lavenders and peaches and pale green foliage. The smooth semi-glossy sheen of the surface glaze imparts a luminous quality enhancing the subtle design.

 Mounted between a dark-stained wood base accented with a brass rim and a dark-stained wood 'cap' atop the ginger jar body. The brass finial is in the form of the Oriental or Chinese 'Happiness' symbol.

A lovely post-modern take on Chinoiserie style (French for 'Chinese-esque') which has seen a major resurgence in popularity in recent years and has been inspiring contemporary design trends. It can soften the look of a room while still feeling current and suits a variety of different home decor settings.

Dated to the 1980s. Country of origin is unconfirmed.
