Louis Le Poitevin (French, 1847 - 1909)

Son of the distinguished painter Eugene Le Poitevin, Louis trained under his father at L'ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Morin, Zachary and Boughereau. He exhibited at Le Salon des Artists in Paris where he won medals in 1883, '88, '89 and 1900. He painted mainly landscape in his native France, but also some in Italy and Belgium. His technique was generally freer than his father's revealing some Impressionist influence and his palet was more restrained. He particularly relished the effects of light and shade in his works. His work hangs in museums in Rheims, Rochfort, Troyes in France and in the Getty Museum in California.
