Strong color, rich texture and deep plate marks.

Plate dimensions 24" x 16.5"". The hand torn paper measures 30" x 22".

Terry Haas was born in Czechoslovakia in 1923. She fled her country from Nazism in the late 30s. She studied art and art history in Paris until her departure for New York in 1941, where she received a scholarship from the Art Students League.

She lived in New York until 1951, where she worked with Will Barnet and Alexander Calder. She also taught graphic arts at Brooklyn College and New York City College.

After being awarded a Fulbright foundation and Woolley scholarship for the study of printmaking, she moved to Paris in 1951, where she began her research at the famous Atelier Lacourière& Frélaut and worked with a plethora of artists including Miró, Chagall, Masson and Picasso.
