My mother-in-law purchased this early 1900s oak rolltop desk and the oak swivel office chair (separate listing) in 1968 in … more My mother-in-law purchased this early 1900s oak rolltop desk and the oak swivel office chair (separate listing) in 1968 in Abington, PA at an estate sale of a local doctor. The beautiful oak hues were obscured by many layers of dark varnish.

My mother-in-law said my husband and I, newlyweds, could have the desk and chair if we re-finished it. It took lots of varnish remover and elbow grease to complete the project. We loved the natural finish we achieved using linseed oil.

The desk has been in our family for more than 53 years. The various-sizes of cubbyholes make this a useful piece of furniture, along with extra deep drawers, large enough for files. The desk includes original skeleton keys that lock the rolltop portion. There are two pull-outs on either side of the desk for extra writing space.

We feel sad to part with our antique desk, but we're in the process of downsizing.
