This elegant antique set includes 12 knives (9 inches) and 12 forks (8 inches) in the original oak hinged box with the original blue velvet lining. The top of the box contains a brass non- engraved shield plate and does not come with key. The wood box measures 13.5" wide, 10" deep, and 3" tall.
This beautiful sterling silver plate set was made by Boardman, Glossop, and Company of Sheffield England sometime around the 1880 ‘s The maker’s mark is on each piece.
When Clover’s Cottage acquired the set, it contained the pictured card indicating that the set was acquired from Marshal Fields’s “Silver Department“. The inventory numbers on the card do not provide a date of acquisition from Marshall Field’s.
The scene on each knife and fork is a salmon swimming in grass. The handles are in the Adams’ style and would be an elegant addition to your formal table. There is little to no tarnish, nor dents, on the knives or forks.
Charles Boardman started producing sterling silver ware (1844) but converted to electroplating in 1847 prior to entering partnership with A.O. Glossop. Boardman & Glossop was active at 54 Pond St. Sheffield (1861 - 1887). less
