This dreamy painting is by the impressionist master Henri Plisson. Using his intuitive technique, a day at the harbor comes to life. Couples take leisurely strolls, a woman sits on a bench and people are enjoying the day on their boats. Using a lovely color palette, every detail has been skillfully captured. The elegant frame features a raised shell design with gracefully curling vines and gilt accents. Signed on the left lower portion of the piece: "Henri Plisson".
Patrick Ryan, 1934 - 2006, was also known by the pseudonym of "Henri Plisson". He adopted the second name as his style changed from abstract to impressionism. Plisson exhibited his paintings in Beverly Hills, CA. Celebrities that discovered and purchased his paintings include: Gene Kelly, Rock Hudson, Katherine Ross, and Aaron Spelling. His art was also showcased and sold internationally through a number of galleries and is currently represented in many important corporate and private collections.
Plisson was quoted as saying, "If a painting is too finished, too exact, it poses limitations on your ability to see it. Better to paint the effect of what is there so someone observing the canvas will see the effect of what you saw, not the subject matter you saw. In essence, what you are doing in impressionism is focusing on one thing, but you are painting another. I am painting a visual echo of what I see."
